Abstract

Holistic biofiltration optimization is designed to shift plant TOC removal to the biofiltration step to reduce overall treatment costs without compromising overall plant performance. This project aimed to combine much of the biofiltration research and demonstrate extensive full-scale biofiltration optimization and integration into the overall treatment train. Holistic biofiltration optimization was performed at two full-scale facilities to enhance biofilter performance and to understand how biofiltration can be most efficiently integrated with upstream processes. Biofiltration and upstream process optimization tests were performed, and an automated data management system was used for managing, analyzing, and interpreting the data.
