Abstract

This study characterized the quantity and quality of organic carbon in the Clackamas River Basin to establish the relationship between dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and DBP precursor concentrations at sites throughout the watershed (and in finished drinking water), and to identify potential sources of DBP precursors in the Clackamas River Basin. Results from this study could be used to help guide future changes in water treatment plant processes and operations that target removal of DBP precursors and to prioritize watershed restoration efforts, particularly if algae are an important source of reactive carbon.
