
Monochloramine Cometabolism by Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria
Abstract
This research defined the relative significance of monochloramine cometabolism in causing disinfectant loss over the typical range of conditions encountered in drinking water distribution systems, provided a mathematical description of monochloramine cometabolism for inclusion in distribution system water quality models, and highlighted circumstances for which changes in source water quality or treatment practices could impact the potential for rapid monochloramine cometabolism at the onset of distribution system nitrification episodes.
